Green Carpet Premiere - 2019

Green Carpet Premiere

The week before February vacation - students attended our much anticipated Green Carpet Premiere!  Students worked in pairs to research and write a script about a memorial or landmark in Washington D.C. or neighboring Virginia.

In collaboration with Mrs. Tucceri, teams then produced a video using green screen technology to encourage people to visit their unique landmark/memorial.

*Videos can be viewed from the link on Miss Binette's webpage*

Science: Animal Adaptations

Science: Animal Adaptations

On the Friday before February vacation, students had the opportunity to observe and try-on some structural features of organisms great and small.

We began our day meeting and observing some new critters...mealworms. Students were tasked with observing the mealworms and identifying their physical structures that help them survive. Students then discussed what functions these structures served for the mealworms. We will continue observing the mealworms as they progress through their life cycle.

We then moved on to learning about some of the structural adaptations of one of the Arctic's apex predators...polar bears. Students shared their schema of polar bears, and then had the opportunity to try out one of the polar bear's structural adaptations - an extra thick layer of fat that helps keep them warm in the frigid Arctic waters.

You can tell from the photos, that the difference of living with and without the layer of fat was noticeable...
